The Pear is the fruit of Pyrus communis. This tree, native of south-eastern Europe and western Asia areas, was already known and cultivated by the Greeks and the Romans. It is a vigorous tree that can reach a height of 15-18 meters and it is characteristic of temperate wheater areas. The cultivations of pears in easter Veneto region has been developed since the early years of the 900 as a result of land reclamation projects, mainly in the coastline.
The Typical Venice Pear includes following varieties: Abate Fetel, Kaiser Alexander, William’s B.C., Max Red Bartlett, Conference and Decana Comice.
